If you were one of the millions of Americans who made a New Year’s resolution last night, then the work starts today. Statistics show that nearly half of all are related to losing weight, getting in shape or eating healthier.
Before you hit the gym, KOAA News 5 spoke to some fitness experts and got their advice on how to help you reach your fitness goals without hurting yourself.
Here are four tips to help you keep your New Year’s resolution for 2026:
- Start slow – don’t overexert yourself, build up to an exercise routine
- Set a realistic routine – pick a schedule that works for you
- Watch what you eat – how you fuel your body will impact your workout
- Practice patience – be realistic in your expectations and remember it’s okay to skip a day
And don’t get discouraged if you fall short of your goal. According to Discover Happy Habits, on average, only 9-12 percent of people actually keep their New Year’s resolution.
