What started as two brothers in San Diego trying to help protect their grandmothers from cyber scams has turned into a worldwide movement.
According to a report by KNSD NBC 7 in San Diego, the brothers founded StayCyberSafe about three years ago after noticing they were often asked to help their own grandmothers navigate scam texts, emails, and phone calls. Now with a network of 20 chapters worldwide, StayCyberSafe holds workshops designed to help seniors recognize scams and protect their personal and financial information.
This is important because recent crime statistics show that adults over age 50 lost $4.8 billion to cybercrime.
Council of Seniors Wants to Give Retirees More Money
All of us at the Council of Seniors want to ensure all seniors get all the money they deserve – that means protecting them from scams and ensuring retirees receive their full Social Security benefits. We are working with members of Congress to introduce the “Social Security Restitution Act.” It would provide an estimated $970 payment to every retired worker receiving Social Security benefits, to help offset years of inadequate cost-of-living adjustments
