The Social Security Administration revealed its annual cost-of-living adjustment for 2027 this week. But that wasn’t the only important number it released. It also announced the maximum taxable earnings.
According to an article by Yahoo! Finance, high-income earners will see a little more taken from their paychecks next year to help pay for Social Security benefits.
The 2027 maximum taxable earnings cap will be $192,300. Earnings up to that amount are subject to Social Security tax. Earnings above this amount are not taxed for Social Security.
For 2026, the maximum Social Security wage limit was $184,500.
Council of Seniors Is Here To Help Older Americans
All of us here at the Council of Seniors want to improve retirees’ financial futures and ensure they receive their full Social Security benefits. We are working with members of Congress to introduce the “Social Security Restitution Act.” It would provide an estimated $970 one-time payment to every retired worker receiving Social Security benefits to help offset years of inadequate cost-of-living adjustments.
