We’ve all heard how important a good night’s sleep is for our overall health. However, many of us struggle to get a good sleep in hot weather. A poor night’s sleep can adversely affect our immune system, cardiovascular system, cognitive performance, and mood.
Sleep experts offer helpful suggestions on how to sleep best in hot weather. Obviously, air conditioning can help, but for those without it, it becomes important to open windows and use fans to improve bedroom airflow. The best temperature for a good night’s sleep is between 65 and 69 degrees.
Another critical factor is to wear breathable cotton sleepwear. Also, use linens that help keep your body temperature down. Bedding products like mattress toppers and pillows are designed for a more cooling effect. Although it may seem counterintuitive, some sleep advocates suggest a warm (not hot) shower before bed that will signal your body to cool off.
Other good advice is to avoid eating and take time to unwind before hopping into bed.

The amount of $581 was withheld from seniors’ Social Security benefits due to low cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs). If this bill passes, that money will be returned.
