Residents of the Lakepoint Retirement Community in Wichita, Kansas, recently showcased their creative talents at a community art show. The event also showed the power of art as a form of therapy.
The painting class is one of the many activities available to residents. Participants told 12 News that they find the program to be therapeutic. Their mind can focus on something creative and artistic rather than the aches and pains they may be feeling.
Art can help heal the mind as well as the body, with the instructor explaining that painting helps keep seniors’ minds sharp by constantly thinking about shapes, sizes and colors.
Many of the participants agreed that programs like this allow for self-expression and provide an escape from the stress of everyday life. Others say they appreciate the sense of accomplishment felt after completing a painting.
Your Retirement Should Be Easy and Worry-Free
Retirement should be enjoyable, not stressful. Unfortunately, millions of older Americans are struggling. More retirement income gives seniors the cushion they need. That’s one reason the Council of Seniors is dedicated to getting Congress to passThe SAVE Benefits Act. This legislation is crucial because the annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) has fallen short in recent years. If we succeed, the $581 withheld from seniors’ benefits will be returned.
Sign our petition today to support our efforts. Congress has ignored the growing number of seniors expecting action for way too long.
