If longevity is a priority for you during retirement, you might want to consider making a move. According to a report by AOL, in the United States, “people who reach age 65 can expect to live, on average, to about age 84.5.” While genetics certainly has a lot to do with how long you live, the article pointed out that long-term lifestyle habits, access to health care, environmental quality, and social support networks also influence lifespan.

Taking all of that into consideration, residents of the following states tend to live the longest: Hawaii, Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, California, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Dakota, Vermont, South Dakota, Colorado, Rhode Island, and Florida.

On the flip side, residents of West Virginia, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Oklahoma tend to have the shortest lifespans.

Council of Seniors Wants to Support Older Americans

The Council of Seniors strives to help seniors live quality lives.  We are working diligently to get Congress to passThe SAVE Benefits Act. This crucial bill will put $581 back in retirees’ pockets to make up for Social Security cost-of-living adjustments that were far too low for years.

Sign our petition today to support our efforts. Congress has ignored the growing number of seniors expecting action for way too long.
