When it comes to considering a retirement location, approximately 12 percent of Americans think of greener pastures abroad. A low cost of living, better weather, lower taxes, and a desirable quality of life are among the factors taken into consideration.

Yahoo Finance reports on a 2021 Aegon Retirement Readiness Study that identified nine countries as suitable landing spots for retirees wanting to live on less than $2,000 a month.  Assuming would-be expatriates can handle the language transition, here are the recommended places, with the average monthly cost of living noted:

  1. Ireland                         $1,974
  2. Canada                        $1,832
  3. New Zealand               $1,669
  4. Denmark                     $1,665
  5. Austria                        $1,467
  6. Japan                           $1,171
  7. Slovenia                      $1,059
  8. Czech Republic            $1,007
  9. Portugal                      $  977

The desire to stretch their nest egg and bring a little adventure to retirement drives expatriates to seek a different culture and vibe for their daily routine. Safety also is a major consideration, with these countries offering a lower crime profile, readiness to accept American settlers, and a stable political and economic climate.

You Deserve the Most Out of Your Benefits

Retirement should be a time to enjoy your golden years and live life to the fullest. That’s why here at Council of Seniors, we’re committed to getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. You need this bill because the annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) hasn’t always kept pace with inflation. If it passes, the $581 needed to fill the monthly gap in seniors’ benefits will be returned.

Please sign our petition right away. Let’s give Washington politicians a wake-up call about how many people support this bill.
