National Public Radio (NPR) is looking for new talent. With the “Senior Podcast Challenge,” Americans age 65 and older are invited to create their own podcasts and compete for a chance to have their work heard on NPR.
According to Inside Radio, aspiring podcasters have until the end of November to submit their original audio stories of up to eight minutes. Entries can range from personal narratives and interviews to fully reported audio journalism. Suggested topics include retirement, living on a fixed income, health and healthcare costs, relationships, travel, grandchildren and new careers.
No professional equipment or previous podcast experience is required. Participants can create their entries using a smartphone, computer and readily available editing software.
NPR plans to select several finalists and a grand-prize winner early next year. According to the article, the winner and a guest will receive a trip to NPR headquarters in Washington, where they will be able to watch — and listen — as their winning podcast airs live on NPR’s “Weekend Edition Sunday” in January or February.
