It’s long been known that seniors with pets derive a lot of joy and companionship from their furry friends. Seasons Retirement Communities notes a study conducted by the Humane Society of Canada, which reported seniors’ significant health benefits from having a pet.

Benefits include feeling less lonely, lower blood pressure, and an increased ability to cope with stress.

Take a look at this video to hear one senior’s account of how rewarding having a pet can be.

It’s also obvious that dog owners get the benefit of exercise from walking their pets, which enhances owners’ overall mobility.

Those who already have pets when entering their golden years have real experience with the responsibility that comes with pet ownership. Seniors considering adopting or acquiring a pet should carefully weigh what’s involved.

Council of Seniors Wants to Make Pet Ownership Easier

Extra income can make having a pet less of a burden. That’s just one reason we are working diligently here at Council of Seniors to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. This bill is needed to make up for insufficient Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLAs) that have cheated seniors out of what they are due. This important bill will return $581 to deserving seniors.

Signing our petition is the first step to take in making this bill a reality.
