As seniors leave their jobs and careers behind to retire, they may find they still want to work at some level, either part-time or remotely. They might want the social interaction that comes with work as well as a sense of purpose. U.S. News & World Report surveyed the country to determine what cities are affordable for retirement and offer great work opportunities.

Their research found 10 places that provide the right mix, along with unique attractions that make them desirable. They found cities that have plentiful jobs in health care, government, tourism, and universities. Some of the locations are strong in all of those. Geographically, they range from New England to the South, Midwest, and West.

Here are the top 10 cities:

  1. Ann Arbor, Michigan
  2. Miami, Florida
  3. Nashville, Tennessee
  4. Manchester, New Hampshire
  5. Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas
  6. Houston, Texas
  7. Charleston, South Carolina
  8. Austin Texas
  9. Portland, Maine
  10. Colorado Springs, Colorado

Part of the research involved examining Bureau of Labor Statistics data on unemployment rates and average salaries.

Council of Seniors Wants to Help Working Seniors

Extra income is always a welcome thing. That’s why Council of Seniors is working hard to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. We need this bill to make up for inadequate Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) that were paid out over a series of years. If it’s passed, seniors will have $581 returned to them.

Sign our petition right now to start helping. Let’s show Congress why this bill must be a top priority.
