Those who have extra money in retirement and are seeking to avoid harsh winters become “snowbirds” heading south for warmer climates. Most think of familiar spots in Florida, but there are wonderful places for snowbirds to consider off the usual paths. TravelAwaits.com compiled a list:

Those who like an urban location with plenty of recreation can find an outdoors and golfing paradise in Phoenix, Arizona. The dry desert climate is just the ticket for many during winter.

A Florida location that doesn’t get much spotlight is Panama City on the Panhandle, with its great beach, as well as plenty of boating and fishing opportunities.

For people who want the charm of a small Southern town, Edenton, North Carolina, is hard to beat just off Albemarle Sound. Out west, Temecula, California, offers wineries, a casino, and hot air balloon rides.

Another coastal location is Mississippi’s budget-friendly “Secret Coast” on the Gulf of Mexico. In Biloxi and Bay St. Louis, snowbirds will find a wealth of things to do, including casinos.

Pawleys Island, South Carolina, is ideal for those looking for a quieter place. Locals take pride in their laid-back lifestyle and what they call their “arrogantly shabby” oceanfront.

Money Seniors Earned Makes Traveling Possible

The more money in your pocket during retirement, the more options you have as far as traveling to a warmer location to live the snowbird life. Here at Council of Seniors, our mission is to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Because Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLAs) were inadequately raised over a period of years, seniors had $581 withheld from them by greedy politicians in Washington. This bill would reimburse seniors, and it’s long overdue.

Please sign our petition today to help us show Congress just how important this bill is.
