As people age, they should focus on a lot more than their physical health. It’s just as important to maintain mental and emotional health. Staying connected with others is a critical part of wellness.

Keeping socially active provides five key benefits for seniors.

  • Staying in contact with friends is a good way to reduce stress and improve cognitive function.
  • Socialization also helps your physical health because it ultimately leads to physical activity and exercise.
  • Another benefit of having social ties with others is enjoying better eating and sleeping habits. Sharing meals with friends leads to good nutrition and often improved sleep.
  • Social activities in general give you a sense of belonging and a connection with people you care about.
  • All these benefits can lead to an increase in longevity. Happier people tend to stay healthy and live longer.

Council of Seniors Wants More Benefits for Seniors

Extra money in your pocket will help your social life. Here at Council of Seniors, we’re pushing Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act, which will reimburse eligible seniors $581 that was not paid out in recent Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLAs).
