Some single women over 60 may be looking for a more adventurous retirement location that still fits their budget. Surprisingly, there are foreign locales that can be very hospitable and affordable for women looking for a laid-back lifestyle in a unique culture.

Travel experts at Sixty+Me have identified what they believe are the top 10 places for single senior women to retire. They are:

  • Abruzzo, Italy
  • Aix-en-Provence, France
  • Alicante, Spain
  • Basilicata, Italy
  • Porto, Portugal
  • Valletta, Malta
  • Chiang Mai, Thailand
  • Bali, Indonesia
  • Panama City, Panama
  • Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

All 10 have significant expatriate populations of people who discovered an affordable foreign retirement where they enjoy a new language and culture. Six of them are European locations with unique histories and the modern conveniences expected in today’s world.

The two Asian towns have unexpected high-quality healthcare and a very affordable standard of living. For those not wanting to get too far from their American roots, Panama City and Puerto Vallarta provide a warm Latin culture for single older women.

Moving abroad isn’t for everyone. But there are resources available to help make the transition smoother. The website Live and Invest Overseas provides a wealth of information on what may be involved.

Council of Seniors Works to Make Retirement Less Stressful

We know tougher economic times make retirement more worrisome. That’s why we urge Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. This bill is needed to enhance the Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA) that’s been inadequate in recent years. If Council of Seniors can get it passed, seniors will be reimbursed the $581 that should have been included in their benefits.

Please sign our petition right away! Let’s work together to show Congress this bill must be a top priority.
