Your days of receiving a Social Security check are coming to an end. You will still receive your monthly benefits, but the Social Security Administration (SSA) says federal law now requires benefits to be paid electronically.

According to a recent blog post, the Department of the Treasury is phasing out paper checks. This is to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance security. If you have not already done so, you should update your account now to ensure you continue to receive your Social Security or Supplemental Security Income quickly and securely.

Start by logging in to your my Social Security account. There you can add your bank account information, which will allow you to receive your payment as a direct deposit. You can also ask your bank or financial institution to send your direct deposit information to Social Security electronically.

Council of Seniors is Here to Help Older Americans

Older Americans worked long and hard and deserve to live a comfortable retirement free from financial strain.

All of us here at the Council of Seniors want to improve retirees’ financial futures — and that starts with Congress enacting The SAVE Benefits Act. The passage of this bill can make up for Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) that have let you down in recent years. If it passes, $581 will be returned to eligible seniors.
