There’s a gender gap when it comes to Social Security. A recent article by CNBC investigated the disparity. It noted new research that shows women rely on Social Security retirement income more than men but receive about $4,800 less in benefits annually.
According to the article, women are at a financial disadvantage during retirement because:
- Women tend to earn less than men
- Women are more likely to take time off work to serve as caregivers
- Women generally live longer than men (about five years on average)
Council of Seniors is Here to Help Older Americans
Older Americans — both men and women — worked long and hard and deserve to live a comfortable retirement free from financial strain.
All of us here at the Council of Seniors want to improve retirees’ financial futures — and that starts with Congress enacting The SAVE Benefits Act. The passage of this bill can make up for Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) that have let you down in recent years. If it passes, $581 will be returned to eligible seniors.
