Everyone can be Irish on March 17, St. Patrick’s Day. Each spring, this holiday gives people of all ages the chance to celebrate the history and heritage of Ireland, home of many Americans’ ancestors. Editors at Good Housekeeping have created a wide list of fun activities for all ages to “go green” on St. Paddy’s Day.

Here are just 10 ways for families to enjoy the festivities:

  1. Learn the history of St. Patrick.
  2. Take a virtual field trip to Ireland.
  3. Find a local parade to attend.
  4. Make some Irish soda bread.
  5. Have a costume contest.
  6. Sit down to a corned beef and cabbage dinner.
  7. Recite a special Irish blessing.
  8. Learn how to stepdance.
  9. Bake some special Irish treats.
  10. Have an Irish scavenger hunt.

Of course, you’re only limited by your imagination on how to get the most fun out of “being Irish” for the day. Adults may want to visit an Irish pub and sample some green beer. If you aren’t Irish by your heritage, it’s an opportunity to learn about a very traditional culture that has contributed so much to the American experience.

Council of Seniors Works to Enhance Social Security

Extra retirement income proves handy for observing holidays. Here at  Council of Seniors, we’re dedicated to getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Because the annual Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA) has fallen behind inflation in recent years, passage of this bill is critical. If we succeed, seniors will be reimbursed the $581 that was withheld from them.

Please sign our petition to show your support for this bill.
