Valentine’s Day isn’t just for younger folks. Seniors living alone or in care facilities can still find ways to celebrate the occasion and call upon fond memories. Professional caregivers recommend different activities and gifts to make this Valentine’s Day worth remembering.

Colorful decorations can create a fun environment for gatherings with family and friends. One way to dress up the occasion is to find family pictures of loved ones to bring back memories of prior Valentine’s Days.

Of course, no celebration would be complete without homemade treats like cookies and cakes.  Those in care facilities might consider doing crafts and sewing/knitting items for use in the community. You can cap off the occasion by watching a favorite romantic movie or comedy.

For that special loved one, an appropriate gift might be a floral arrangement or houseplant. Don’t forget sweet treats like chocolates. No matter the age, a stuffed animal always helps brighten up one’s surroundings.

Council of Seniors Works to Strengthen Social Security

Additional retirement income can mean a lot to seniors. Here at Council of Seniors, we’re dedicated to getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. This legislation is necessary because the annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) has been inadequate in recent years. If it passes, the $581 missing from seniors’ benefits will be returned.

Please sign our petition without delay. Your help can be a game-changer in returning this money to seniors.
