The high cost of living has many American retirees making the financial decision to retire abroad. An article by Travel & Leisure cited the results of a retirement destination attractiveness report, sharing that the top five countries are Australia, followed by Portugal, New Zealand, Singapore, and Spain. The rankings were based on factors such as the cost of living, property ownership, lifestyle, health care, visa access, and more.

The report noted that the “Land Down Under” appeals to Americans because it’s an English’s speaking country and offers an exceptional quality of life, safety, and health care, but one big trade-off is the distance.

Additionally, Australia offers something for everyone. It is renowned for its sunshine and subtropical climate, particularly on Queensland’s Gold Coast, as well as its wineries and oyster farms in Tasmania, and its incredible cultural offerings in Sydney.

Council of Seniors Wants to Give Retirees More Money

We want all seniors to be able to afford the retirement they rightfully deserve – and that means making sure retirees receive the money they should have gotten years ago. All of us at the Council of Seniors are working hard to get Congress to passThe SAVE Benefits Act. This crucial bill will put $581 back in seniors’ pockets to make up for Social Security cost-of-living adjustments that were far too low for years.
