The price of groceries keeps going up. This is putting undue financial strain on retirees living on a fixed income. Making matters worse, an article by SavingAdvice.com says many grocery stores are doing away with senior discount days.

Savvy seniors know that they can save, often between 5% and 10%, if they shop on certain days of the week and at certain stores. But it’s getting harder to take advantage of these types of deals because, according to the article, “some grocery chains have adjusted their discount schedules, limited participation, or shifted promotions to certain locations only.”

Depending upon where you live, there are still a few grocery chains offering discounts to senior shoppers, including Harris Teeter, Fred Meyer, and Hy-Vee.

Even if your local grocer stopped offering senior discounts, you can still save by taking advantage of weekly digital coupons and store promotions to maximize savings.

Council of Seniors is Here to Help Older Americans

Older Americans worked long and hard and deserve to live a comfortable retirement free from financial strain.

All of us here at the Council of Seniors want to improve retirees’ financial futures – and that starts with Congress enacting The SAVE Benefits Act. The passage of this bill can make up for Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) that have let you down in recent years. If it passes, $581 will be returned to eligible seniors.
