Lawmakers have failed to fix the Social Security solvency issue. We are looking at massive benefit cuts in the next few years if nothing is done. Perhaps it’s time the people step up.

The American Academy of Actuaries has developed the Social Security Challenge, an animated exercise that explains how the program works, the pending funding shortfall, and possible financial solutions.

According to the Academy, the gamified exercise allows people to “develop your proposed reform approach by exploring a virtual town, where you’ll hear residents’ diverse views on reform ideas, learn about their impacts, and puzzle through choices. In the challenge finale, select and submit your approach from a range of possible reform options and see how well it works to keep Social Security financially strong.”

David Mendes, director of communications for the Academy, told Yahoo! Finance that the Social Security Challenge “immerses users in an animated virtual trek where they learn about the program, the financing shortfall that could (if unaddressed by Congress) lead to future cuts in scheduled benefits, and how different reform options they select along their journey could help address the shortfall.”

Council of Seniors Is Here To Help Older Americans

Older Americans worked long and hard and deserve to live a comfortable retirement free from financial strain.

All of us here at the Council of Seniors want to improve retirees’ financial futures – and that starts with Congress enacting The SAVE Benefits Act. The passage of this bill can make up for Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) that have let you down in recent years. If it passes, $581 will be returned to eligible seniors.
