Many retirees seek a new home in places with a sunny climate, beautiful scenery, a variety of outdoor activities, a lower cost of living, reasonable taxes, and affordable housing. One overlooked option that meets all those criteria is New Mexico, “The Land of Enchantment.”
This southwestern state offers medium-sized cities as well as a number of attractive smaller towns and villages for consideration. Here are the dozen locations deemed best for retirement:
- Carlsbad
- Silver City
- Taos
- Placitas
- Santa Fe
- Ruidoso
- Corrales
- Truth or Consequences
- Alamogordo
- Roswell
- Rio Rancho
- Las Cruces
Virtually all of them are well-situated close to a wide range of outdoor activities, from golf to hiking.
Some of the places are well-known, such as Santa Fe, the state capital, and Taos for its vibrant art community. There’s Roswell, famed for the location of a supposed UFO landing, and Carlsbad on the Pecos River and close to the famed Carlsbad Caverns.
There’s much to like in New Mexico with its unique Western and Native American cultures.
Council of Seniors Wants Retirement to Be Fulfilling
Relocating for retirement is easier with more income. That’s why Council of Seniors keeps pushing Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. This legislation will help make up for inadequate Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) from a series of years. Seniors are owed $581 from the COLAs that weren’t enough, and this bill will return that money.
