According to Senior List, there are seven top charities that provide a range of services to senior citizens.

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) was established in 2002 to help patients and caregivers locate local support groups, access helpful information, learn of local events, and find online webinars.

For veterans seeking to visit war memorials in Washington D.C., Honor Flight Network (HFN) operates out of 19 airport hubs to fly veterans with a terminal illness to the nation’s capital with personal escorts to make the visit truly memorable.

The well-known Meals on Wheels America (MWA) serves the elderly nationwide through 5,000 local chapters. MWA’s volunteers offer timely delivery and a friendly face to help feed them.

Pets for the Elderly (PFE) works with 54 animal shelters in 34 states to match senior citizens with pets who can bring companionship. Pets also help them through exercise and having a sense of responsibility by caring for them.

Some seniors in assisted living, memory care, and nursing homes have unfulfilled dreams about places to visit or family and friends they’d like to see. Second Wind Dreams volunteers help provide opportunities to experience these wishes through special programs.

Senior Net: Education and Empowerment works to get seniors more comfortable with computers by offering 150+ classes on a variety of educational topics.

Shepherd’s Centers of America (SCA) helps up to 160,000 seniors annually with special “adventures” in learning, wellness, and volunteering.

Council of Seniors Wants Your Benefits to Provide More

Extra income is always welcomed by seniors. That’s why here at Council of Seniors, we’re committed to getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. This bill will make up for $581 that was not paid out in recent Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLAs).
