A growing option for seniors in retirement is the continuing care retirement community (CCRC), which offers various levels of assistance and housing options in one location.

U.S. News & World Report has surveyed senior care experts to learn more about the pros and cons of CCRCs. What the editors found is enlightening.

A significant advantage of a CCRC is seniors only make one big move to get there. You can enter into independent living in your own cottage or villa and then progress to assisted living and ultimately skilled nursing care. Being in one community gives you the opportunity to make friendships and create a social network. CCRCs often provide on-site amenities such as healthcare, banking, light shopping, personal care, and social activities.

However, there is a downside. CCRCs can require a significant upfront financial commitment from the low six figures and higher. They also screen applicants for health status and level of independence. So, do your homework.

Council of Seniors Wants to Strengthen Social Security

Your benefits in retirement should be exactly what you expected. This is why Council of Seniors is working tirelessly to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. You need this bill to make up for insufficient Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) that didn’t keep up with inflation over several years. If it passes, $581 will be returned to eligible seniors.
