Washington, D.C. — July 11, 2025 — In a bold show of grassroots momentum, the Council of Seniors has delivered 86,869 signed petitions to members of Congress, urging swift passage of the SAVE Benefits Act — a transformative bill that would provide a $581 direct payment to most Social Security recipients, compensating for years of inadequate cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs).
For too long, retirees have been punished by Washington’s refusal to provide fair COLAs. This is not a handout — it’s payback for what was unfairly withheld.
The SAVE Benefits Act is designed to restore economic dignity to America’s retired citizens, many of whom have endured stagnant Social Security payments that fail to keep up with rising inflation, housing, food, and medical costs.
Congress must understand — we will not be ignored. The voices of 86,869 Americans are ringing loud and clear: Fix this now.
The Council of Seniors, a national non-profit organization advocating for retirees, has been leading the charge with aggressive petition drives, public awareness campaigns, and voter mobilization efforts. With supporters in 48 states, the Council’s movement reflects the growing frustration of older Americans living on fixed incomes while Washington continues to prioritize wasteful spending over the promises made to seniors.
Our supporters are telling us one thing over and over: Enough is enough. This petition delivery is just the beginning. We will continue to turn up the pressure until the SAVE Benefits Act becomes law.
