Retirement brings the luxury of more free time to enjoy a broad range of activities not pursued during working years. For many people, it’s an ideal time to find a new hobby to unleash their energy and creativity.

Some retirees find the spare time just to learn a foreign language, join a book club, expand skills through online learning, or find out more about family ties through genealogy.

Those concerned about their physical well-being can spend more time walking and hiking, bicycling, gardening, or birdwatching.

Others may decide to get in touch with their more creative side by pursuing singing or learning to play a musical instrument. It’s also a great time to develop a drawing or painting talent. Photography is another favored pastime, as well as putting pen to paper to write that next great mystery or romance novel.

But more spare time also brings the opportunity to do some good in your community through volunteering to help local charities or religious organizations. Schools and libraries also can use volunteer help.

We’re Working Hard To Save Your Retirement Benefits

Here at Council of Seniors, we’re focused on getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Passage of this bill will put more money in pocket the pockets of seniors so that they can live comfortably during retirement – and even enjoy new hobbies. This legislation will make up for the years of low or nonexistant Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLAs). Once passed, eligible seniors will be reimbursed $581 that should have been included in recent COLA adjustments.

Please sign our petition today to help us get this important bill passed.

What are your retirement hobbies? Leave us a comment and let us know.
