Liam and Olivia are the most popular baby names in the United States for the seventh straight year.
The Social Security Administration compiles a list of the country’s most popular baby names each year. In 2025, the 10 most popular boys’ names were: Liam, Noah, Oliver, Theodore, Henry, James, Elijah, Mateo, William, and Lucas. And the most popular girls’ names were: Olivia, Charlotte, Emma, Amelia, Sophia, Mia, Isabella, Evelyn, Sofia, and Eliana.
Social Security began compiling the baby name list in 1997, with names dating back almost 150 years. Click here to find out which baby names were most popular the year you were born. You might be surprised to see which names have stood the test of time.
The SSA can track baby names because parents must file for a Social Security number (SSN) when their baby is born. An SSN is needed to claim a child as a dependent for income tax purposes.
Council of Seniors Is Here To Help Older Americans
Income taxes fund Social Security retirement benefits. The Council of Seniors wants to improve retirement life – and that starts with Congress enacting The SAVE Benefits Act. The passage of this bill will improve retirees’ finances by making up for Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) that have let them down in recent years. If it passes, $581 will be returned to eligible seniors.
