The cost of gas and airfares has skyrocketed, but that doesn’t mean cost-conscious retirees can’t enjoy a summer vacation without breaking the bank.
AOL put together a list of travel destinations that are “off the obvious radar, genuinely affordable and packed with the kind of unhurried experiences that crowded tourist hotspots can’t offer.”
Here are four places here in the U.S. you might want to consider visiting:
Bend, Oregon – Sitting at the edge of the Cascade Mountains with easy access to Crater Lake, this charming town is idea for active retirees who want outdoor adventure without roughing it.
Bisbee, Arizona – The former copper mining town is now one of the quirkiest and most charming small towns in the Southwest.
The Finger Lakes, New York – This region in upstate New York offers beautiful waterfalls, impressive state parks and more than 100 wineries offering free or low-cost tastings.
Paducah, Kentucky – This small city on the Ohio River was designated a UNESCO Creative City for its thriving quilt and fiber arts culture. It boasts a well-preserved downtown, walkable riverfront and vibrant food scene.
Council of Seniors is Here to Help Older Americans
Older Americans worked long and hard and deserve to travel and enjoy a comfortable retirement free from financial strain.
All of us here at the Council of Seniors want to improve retirees’ financial futures – and that starts with Congress enacting The SAVE Benefits Act. The passage of this bill can make up for Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) that have let you down in recent years. If it passes, $581 will be returned to eligible seniors.
