Are you among Americans thinking that the practice of tipping is getting out of control? New digital point-of-sale terminals and checkout stations promote tipping when no or little service is provided. AARP reports more consumers are getting annoyed and confused by what the new rules for tipping should be.

It now seems like you’re being hit up for tips everywhere thanks to technology. And more Americans are developing a negative view of tipping. A recent survey shows 66 percent of people today don’t appreciate the new tipping culture. Also, 41 percent believe businesses should pay their employees better to eliminate tipping. As much as 15 percent are completely confused about whom to tip and how much.

The bottom line is, tipping should be discretionary, so don’t feel guilty and get pressured into it if you aren’t comfortable.

Your Retirement Should Be Enjoyable

More retirement income makes senior life easier. That’s why here at Council of Seniors, we’re working hard to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Because inadequate annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) haven’t kept up with inflation over a series of years, $581 was withheld from seniors. The passage of this bill will get this money returned.
