Most Americans are likely aware of The Villages, a 55+ retirement community in North Central Florida that’s one of the fastest-growing places in the country.

Before you pack up your bags to head south, you should know some pros and cons about The Villages.

On the plus side, you have Florida weather to keep you outside much of the year. Next, the cost of living will seem reasonable compared to what you may be used to. Depending upon your favorite recreation, you’ll get access to golf, tennis, fishing, swimming, hiking, and even competitive sports leagues.

But it’s not all sunshine and roses. If you’re used to a different climate, you’ll find getting accustomed to the humidity tough. Also, you won’t find a lot of diversity. Most of the people are affluent retirees from a similar demographic and shared worldview. Finally, developers are in control of everything, so there’s no involvement in local governance.

Retirement Should be Fulfilling

Here at Council of Seniors, we believe Congress must pass The SAVE Benefits Act to ease the sting of inflation. This bill is needed because recent annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) have short-changed seniors, and the amount of $581 was withheld from checks. The passage of this bill will ensure this money is returned.

Signing our petition right away is the first step to take to help us show Congress how many people support this bill.
