We’ve made it our mission here at the Council of Seniors to ensure that The SAVE Benefits Act is passed. This legislation guarantees retirees can finally receive the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) they’ve been denied over a series of years, which totals up to $581.

To put things into perspective, retirees paid into the Social Security Trust Fund all their working lives. Now, just imagine finally reaching the point of retirement, only to realize that you won’t receive the full benefits you’re entitled to — and have already paid for — all because of politicians who want to keep the money in Washington. Wouldn’t you feel like you’d been cheated? Our seniors do, too.

Seniors Rely on Social Security Income

According to a report from Justice in Aging, half of older adults rely on Social Security for the majority of their income, and for 25 percent of them, Social Security contributes 90 percent of their income.

They’ve counted on being protected and receiving the benefits they’ve worked so hard for.

While the additional $581 might not sound like a huge amount of money in the grand scheme of things, it can have a huge impact when prices of basic necessities continue to climb. For all of the years they worked so hard and paid their fair share, it’s unfathomable that they are being denied the funds they deserve because of greedy politicians. At the root of things, this isn’t just a matter of money; it’s a matter of justice and a matter of doing what’s right.

Our retirees were promised this money, and they’re entitled to it. We’ll continue to fight for them until The SAVE Benefits Act is passed. This money is long overdue, and it’s time that they receive what is rightfully theirs.

We invite you to take a moment and sign our petition to Congress, urging our representatives to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. With just a minute of your time, you can help us get one step closer to getting retirees the funds they deserve.
