Today’s seniors came of age long before computers were commonplace. Many retired before technology knowledge was a mandatory job requirement. But that doesn’t mean it’s too late to embrace technology and its many benefits.

According to Positively Naperville, a community newspaper in Illinois, seniors are seeking out lessons on how to use technology in their everyday lives. The program is offered at two local libraries and has about 125 active participants who are learning everything from how to navigate medical portals or download music to listen to when driving to how to shop for a new computer.

Seniors learn they do not need to fear technology. It’s about empowering retirees to use technology effectively and efficiently and to trust the tools available.

Knowledge is Power

With this newfound comfort with technology, we at the Council of Seniors encourage you to sign our petition calling on Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Inadequate Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) in recent years make this legislation a priority. When passed, it will give $581 back to retirees. That’s money you could use to upgrade your smartphone, putting the full power of a computer in the palm of your hands.
