When you think about virtual reality (VR) headset users, senior citizens don’t come readily to mind. But innovative occupational therapists are finding VR can be a useful tool for seniors with mobility and aging issues.
A New Hampshire therapist has shared her experience in helping her aged parents explore new adventures through the use of Virtual Reality. She believed it could be just the right technology to brighten up their day and bring back fond memories from their pasts.
VR headsets provide users with a 360-degree experience using video, sound, and motion tracking sensors to create an alternate environment to explore.
The therapist’s mother often talked of “missing the beach.” So, she put on the headset and enjoyed a beach retreat experience from French Polynesia. For the father, a 20-minute Wildlife Adventures VR showed him foxes in the wild.
Seniors Deserve the Money They Were Promised
If you want to invest in technology, extra money can help. That’s one reason why here at Council of Seniors we see a pressing need for Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) have been inadequate in recent years. Passage of this bill will result in seniors being reimbursed $581 that should have been paid all along.
Signing our petition immediately will show Washington politicians that seniors know this bill must get priority action.
