If you’re looking for something meaningful to do in retirement, there are a wealth of opportunities for volunteer activities, both here at home and abroad.

In local communities, Habitat For Humanity builds housing for needy families. Food banks and Meals on Wheels always need helping hands. For our animal friends, humane societies and animal shelters continually seek caring people.

Children of all ages need attention as well. Foster grandparent programs, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and Head Start all welcome volunteers to provide mentoring and help in education. Museums need docents and tour guides.

The range of potential natural disasters, from earthquakes to hurricanes, all require a quick response to help those affected. The Red Cross is first on the scene, with volunteers providing valuable people power. There are similar opportunities to help globally as well.

Your opportunity to serve with a sense of purpose is limitless.

You could also sign our petition and follow along as we work to get seniors all the Social Security benefits they deserve. This is a meaningful mission that will affect the lives of millions of retirees in a real way.

You Deserve the Retirement Benefits You Were Promised

Not only will extra income can free up time for volunteering during retirement, but deserve seniors to receive all of the money from Social Security benefits they are entitled to. In some recent years, the Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA) was not substantially increased, and $581 was withheld from seniors. This is why we at Council of Seniors are working diligently to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. If passed, that money will be returned.

Together, we can show greedy politicians that withholding this money is wrong.
