In general, it’s well-known that women tend to outlive men. The explanation for why can be traced to the different lifestyles of men and women. Recent research shows the gap is widening between how long women and men can expect to live. YahooLife reports that the current gap can be attributed to five factors:

  1. COVID-19
  2. Unintentional injuries
  3. Heart disease
  4. Suicide and homicide
  5. Diabetes

The latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate the average life expectancy for women is 79.1 years, while for men, it’s 73.2 years.

That six-year gap can be explained because women focus more on healthier lifestyles. Plus, the nature of male life exposes them to more dangerous work environments and lifestyles, such as smoking.

Senior Life Should Be Satisfying

Having extra money in your pocket makes coping with today’s challenges easier. That’s one reason why Council of Seniors is dedicated to getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Due to insufficient cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs), the amount of $581 was withheld from seniors. The passage of this bill will ensure this money is returned.
