For some seniors, the Holiday Season can be a hard time in which to stay positive and be happy.  They may be dealing with loneliness, a lack of activity, limited mobility, financial pressures, and past memories that seem long gone.

Caring Senior Services offers five suggestions for how seniors and caregivers can make the holidays happier.

Step one: reminisce in a positive way. Bring out old holiday photos and listen to seasonal songs to recapture a sense of good cheer, and don’t dwell on what you miss. Also, take control of your finances with a realistic budget to keep from spending money you don’t have.

It’s equally important to get the holiday spirit by continuing traditions such as baking special goodies, having sing-alongs with family and friends, and attending community events to celebrate with others.

Seniors having problems and coping with depression should talk it out with family and caregivers. There’s every reason to seek help and understanding from those who care about you.

Finally, find a way to connect with those who matter the most. If travel is no option, take advantage of technology for face-to-face contact to create new memories.

Council of Seniors Wants to Ease Holiday Money Concerns

Extra income for the holidays can mean a lot. Council of Seniors is adamant that Congress must pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Inadequate Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLA)s in recent years make this bill a top priority. Passing it now will recover the $581 currently missing from benefits.

By signing our petition right away, you’ll help us show Congress the rapidly growing support for this bill.
