Retirement offers the time and opportunity for older adults to continue learning. They can further their formal education or just explore new interests through opportunities available online via the Internet.
Studies show that 81 percent of seniors use the Internet daily to get information and acquire knowledge. Here are six ways to use technology to learn new things:
- University-offered courses
- Online courses offered by educational or non-profit groups
- Virtual fitness courses
- TEDTalks
- E-books and audiobooks
- Local business seminars
You can easily access online learning that fits your schedule and meets your interests. Older adults also use the Internet to pursue hobbies or access entertainment in addition to staying connected with loved ones.
Taking courses to acquire credits to round out formal education or just to learn new things helps support and improve your cognitive function. It’s also a way to meet people and make new friends.
Your Retirement Should Be Enjoyable
Council of Seniors knows extra income is always welcome for seniors. That’s why we’re working hard to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. We need this bill to make up for inadequate Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) paid out over a series of years. Once passed, seniors will be reimbursed the missing $581.
Signing our petition is the first step you can take to help us show Washington politicians this bill is a high priority.
