A Couple Walking

Spring brings the opportunity to get outside again to enjoy fresh air and sunshine. For seniors who’ve been cooped up in winter, it’s a great time to engage in fun outdoor activities with little or no cost. Behavioral health specialists suggest seniors take advantage of the weather to renew favorite pastimes or engage in new ones. Here are simple things that can be done, some without leaving home and just staying on the porch:

  •             Wheelchair-accessible trails in parks
  •             Cloud watching
  •             Stargazing
  •             Walking games
  •             Bird feeder watching
  •             Farmers markets
  •             Gardening
  •             Picnicking
  •             Volunteering outdoors
  •             Photography
  •             Visiting local farms

The variation in these activities gives seniors the chance to find some that match their physical ability and mobility. There’s no question that getting outside provides a boost to physical and mental health

Retirement Should Provide Resources for Leisure

Extra retirement income can help seniors enjoy life more. That’s why here at Council of Seniors, we’re committed to getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. The amount of $581 was withheld from seniors’ benefits due to insufficient cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs.). If this bill passes, that money will be returned.

Please sign our petition right away. Let’s show Congress the growing number of people who support this bill.
