Writing is a very personal experience, one that people put on the back burner in adulthood until their senior years. For those eager to take to pen in hand, or hit the keyboard, senior years provide the freedom and real benefits to becoming a writer. There are definite advantages for senior writers:

  • Time: Retirement brings more free time to indulge your writing desire.
  • Space:  You now can create a room or nook for writing.
  • Voice:  Defined tastes and views provide a unique way of expression.
  • Fewer Distractions: The demands of jobs and parenting no longer inhibit you.
  • Historical Perspective:  You’ve witnessed a lot of important events.
  • Different Goals: You don’t write to earn a living or become famous.
  • Self-acceptance: You now can relish being a storyteller.

You don’t need formal education in creative writing or non-fiction to finally express your unique voice. If you simply enjoy writing, try fiction or commentary on what’s going on in the world to start.

Council of Seniors Works for Stronger Social Security Benefits

Here at Council of Seniors, we believe Congress must pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Because the annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) hasn’t kept up with inflation over a number of years, seniors need this bill to get relief. Once passed, the $581 that’s been missing from seniors’ benefits will be returned.

Please take time now to sign our petition. Get others to help too! Washington politicians need a wake-up call about how many people support this bill. Your help can make a big difference in returning this money to seniors.
