One of the lesser-known plusses of reaching your senior years is the wide range of discounts and savings available from a number of leading national and local companies.

SeniorLiving.org provides a handy list of more than 100 discounts, some beginning even at age 50. Always ask any business or service if they offer a senior discount.

When it comes to shopping, a number of major retailers and grocery chains offer rewards cards or set aside certain days for senior discounts.

Restaurants and entertainment venues are among those that cater to seniors. You also can enjoy reduced admissions at movie theaters, national parks, museums, and local attractions.

Travel is another major area where you can score significant savings. Hotels, rental cars, and cruises offer discounts. Airlines, bus companies and rail carriers do, too.

Communications media such as the Internet and cell phone providers have introduced a number of special programs for those age 55 and higher.

You Deserve Money That’s Entitled to You

Senior discounts help put more money in your pocket, which is what Council of Seniors is trying to do by getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. This law can make up for the Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA) that was too low – or even nonexistent – over a series of years. This is money seniors earned – and deserve. If passed, eligible seniors will be reimbursed $581, money that’s belonged to you all along.

Please sign our petition. In Washington, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Let’s make the voices of seniors heard. Adding your name will help show politicians in Washington the increasing support for this bill.
