Seniors with mobility issues may be reluctant to travel by air. Navigating through airport terminals and dealing with crowded airplanes may prove too challenging.
Travel experts offer a number of air travel tips to help put seniors’ minds at ease when it comes to flying.
When making reservations, be sure to let the airline know about any potential issues in terms of accessing the lavatory, storing mobility aids like canes or walkers, and getting seats in locations that will make boarding and deplaning easier.
It’s helpful to get familiar with the airport layout and gate locations to determine if you may need to reserve a wheelchair service to assist with getting through security and avoiding long walks.
Seniors should consider what they want to take on board. Items such as travel pillows, headphones to block out noise, and compression stockings to help avoid blood clots are typical choices. Some flyers might opt to wear masks to avoid exposure to infection.
Finally, make sure you have the right medications with you and documents to assist the crew if a medical issue arises in flight.
Travel is Easier with Extra Income
Extra income can make travel more affordable. That’s one reason why Council of Seniors strongly believes getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act must be a priority. This bill is needed to make up for inadequate Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) from several recent years. If we succeed, seniors will be reimbursed the $581 that should have been included all along.
Sign our petition without delay. We need more Americans to step up and help us show Congress how many people support this bill.
