As Easter draws near, it’s time to think about ways to encourage families to bring kids to visit grandparents and elder loved ones. The interaction between generations will strengthen family ties and brighten everyone’s day.

Assisted living facilities can decorate main living areas in festive pastels and Easter symbols (bunnies, eggs, chicks) to make children more comfortable in unfamiliar surroundings.

Scheduled activities like an Easter egg hunt or visit from the Easter Bunny will encourage families to put the event on their calendar as a “must do.”

A few days in advance of Easter, there are activities kids and their grandparents can do together. Making Easter baskets can be a memorable way to celebrate. Given kitchen facilities available at senior communities, the staff can hold a fun class to make chocolate bunnies using special molds. Of course, the kids then will leave with a wonderful treat.

Let’s not overlook the fun that comes with dying Easter eggs, picking out favorite colors to use, and teaching kids the right way to do it.

Help Us Support Senior Citizens

Here at Council of Seniors, we’re deeply committed to getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Retirees need this bill to make up for annual Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLAs) that haven’t matched the pressures of inflation. Over the years, $581 has been withheld from seniors, and it’s time for that money to be returned.

Please sign our petition today! Congress has to learn how many people support this bill.
