Modern dryers are a lifesaver, especially given our busy schedules and the need for better energy efficiency. However, certain items of clothing just don’t hold up to the heat. Good Housekeeping’s test lab has identified items that can’t withstand high heat and tumbling.
Here are just 10 of the common items you should never put in your dryer:
- Bras
- Tights
- Swimsuits
- Wool or Cashmere Sweaters
- Rubber-backed rugs
- Embellished Clothing
- Running Shoes
- Backpacks & Lunch Bags
- Reusable Grocery Bags
- Activewear
Dryer heat can shrink, warp, or ruin many of these items. Obviously, more delicate clothing is better suited for air drying, depending on the fabric or materials involved. It’s always wise to check the care tag on clothing to see what’s recommended for laundering and drying. Items with any elasticity are also vulnerable to being damaged in the dryer. Running shoes are susceptible to cushioning being ruined and their adhesives weakened. You’re better safe than sorry when it comes to the items on this list.
Your Retirement Should Be Easy and Worry-Free
More retirement income gives seniors a cushion they need. That’s one reason at Council of Seniors, we’re completely dedicated to getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. This legislation is crucial because the annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) has fallen short in recent years. If we succeed, the $581 withheld from seniors’ benefits will be returned.
Sign our petition today to get on board with helping. Congress has ignored the growing number of Americans expecting action for way too long.
