It’s well known that seniors who stay active and connected with others enjoy better health than those who suffer loneliness and isolation. Experts on aging recommend several ways for seniors to meet and connect with their peers.
Most communities have a range of volunteer organizations that rely on seniors for help. Local libraries and food pantries are just two examples. Another great way to meet other seniors is through faith-based activities, where there are people who share your values.
Most community colleges offer courses that appeal to seniors, such as painting, ceramics, and culinary classes. Continuing education helps you stay mentally sharp too. Staying fit is easy at private gyms and the YMCA. Both offer classes specifically for older adults.
Check out travel designed for seniors, such as bus day trips or more extended tours. Cruises for seniors are another way to meet your peers.
Council of Seniors Wants You to Get Better Benefits
Extra income can help you with continuing education or travel. Here at Council of Seniors, we’re working continually to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Because the annual Social Security cost-of- living adjustment (COLA) doesn’t always keep up with inflation, this bill is seriously needed. If we can get it passed, seniors will be reimbursed $581 that’s been missing from their benefits.
Please sign our petition right away! That’s how you can help us show Congress the growing support for this bill.
