Many retirees would like to find a place on or near the water, where they can enjoy the view and such activities like boating, fishing, and swimming without breaking their retirement budget. An analysis of Census Bureau data has identified 10 affordable locations to retire near water.

Not surprisingly, 7 of the10 are in Florida, which has no income tax, and plenty of sunshine and coastline. Three locations are on the Atlantic Ocean (Jacksonville, Melbourne and Miami) while three more are on the Gulf Coast (Tampa, Sarasota and Cape Coral). The other location, Orlando, is surrounded by a number of beautiful lakes while being a short drive from either coast.

One other place on the Atlantic Coast that fits the bill is Virginia Beach, Virginia, with access to both the ocean and Chesapeake Bay. The other two making the top 10 are in the Midwest, one being Chicago on Lake Michigan, and the other being Minneapolis in the “Land of Lakes.”

Your Hard-Earned Money Belongs in Your Pocket

No matter where you choose to retire, you deserve every penny that you paid into the Social Security Trust Fund during your career. For a period of years, the Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA) was far too low or even nonexistent. Seniors deserve $581 to make up for the money withheld from them. That’s why Council of Seniors is working hard to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act so the money can go back in your pocket where it belongs.

Please sign our petition today to help show politicians in Washington that more and more people support this bill.
