When cooler winter weather hits, seniors may be more tempted to just stay inside. Aging experts recommend they still get out to engage in physical activity and get fresh air. There are fun ways to enjoy the best of the outdoors if you dress accordingly, avoid severe winter weather, and don’t stay out too long.
Here are seven recommended ways to still enjoy the outdoors in winter:
- Cook outdoors in a barbecue
- Walk in a winter wonderland
- Take the family on a dog walk or build a snowman
- Watch a movie on a big screen on an enclosed porch under blankets
- Visit an outdoor attraction like a garden or park
- Go to the beach
- Enjoy a soak in a hot tub
Staying cooped up inside is not conducive to staying in physical shape or keeping your mind engaged with nature. So even when you don’t particularly feel like it, get outside, even if it’s just for a short period of time.
Your Retirement Should Be Stress-Free
Council of Seniors is fully committed to getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) have been insufficient in recent years, leading to $581 being withheld from seniors. If we can get this bill passed, that money will be returned.
