When it comes to retirement, there’s a lot to consider in terms of where you might spend your later years. Weather and taxes are often primary concerns. But as you age, healthcare becomes a bigger consideration.

Brett Arends at MarketWatch writes that MedicareGuide.com has reviewed all the states (and D.C.) to determine the best places for retirees in terms of healthcare cost, quality, and access. It based its conclusions on data gathered from both federal healthcare agencies and medical associations.

Topping the list is Minnesota, which is home to the renowned Mayo Clinic. Other states in the top five locations are North Dakota, Massachusetts, California, and Nebraska, providing a nice choice of geographic possibilities.

Placing at the bottom of the survey are Oklahoma, Georgia, The District of Columbia, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Of course, the southern locations are mostly rural with fewer major population centers. But retirees are attracted by sunshine and lower taxes.

With Your Help, Council of Seniors Can Put Money in Your Pocket

As medical bills continue to increase in cost, we want you to get all the money you earned during retirement. So Council of Seniors is determined to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. This law is needed to recover the Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLAs) that were far too low over a period of years. Its passage will reimburse seniors $581 to make up for these insufficient COLAs.
