The old adage, “it’s the little things that add up” certainly applies to steps seniors can take right away to trim costs out of their monthly budget to relieve financial stress. According to Newsmax, a recent survey of The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards shows those who stick to a budget are more confident of their finances.

Maxime Rieman, a product manager at ValuePenguin suggests 9 simple moves seniors can take now to save money and feel better about their future:

  • Find a budget app – try it out to see if it helps
  • Set up a call with a financial advisor
  • Check out a webinar on health insurance
  • Find a good book on retirement finances
  • Instead of buying new items, find good quality used items
  • Always ask for and show your ID for senior discounts
  • Eliminate subscriptions for newspapers or magazines you have less time to read
  • Research online banks to learn how they offer key services and pay higher interest
  • Remember charitable donations can lower your taxes

By following these recommendations, you can start saving right away!

Council of Seniors Is Working to Put Money in Seniors’ Pockets

Extra retirement income is always a welcome thing. That’s why we at Council of Seniors are working hard to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. This bill is designed to make up for the Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA) money retirees haven’t received over a number of years. If passed, seniors will be reimbursed $581, which is money that’s always belonged to them.

By signing our petition, you can help us show politicians in Washington the growing support for this bill. We’d truly appreciate your support in returning this money that seniors deserve.
