Writing a check

Those getting ready to claim Social Security benefits, or those who think their check may be wrong, have an opportunity to make sure they’re getting the right amount.

Social Security benefits are based on your highest 35 years of earnings. It’s critical to make sure the Social Security Administration (SSA) has the right information on which to base your monthly check. If you’ve worked less than 35 years, your benefit will be reduced.

If you’ve already claimed benefits, and have an online SS account, you can check to make sure the agency has all the correct information by comparing it with your income tax returns or statements from your employers.

The agency has a toll-free number, 800-772-1213, you can call on Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A SSA representative will be able to answer your questions and advise you on how to correct any information that may adversely affect your monthly benefit.

Council of Seniors Wants You to Get the Benefits You Deserve

You’re entitled to all of the benefits you were promised. That’s why here at Council of Seniors, we’re intently focused on getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Insufficient Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLAs) from recent years make this bill a must so that $581 can be returned to seniors.

Take time right now to sign our petition. Let’s show Congress how many people support this bill.
