In addition to Social Security benefits, the Social Security Administration (SSA) pays Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to certain low-income individuals with limited resources including those who are blind, have a qualifying disability, and are 65 and older. A qualifying disability is one that keeps you from working and is expected to last one year or until death.

Yahoo Finance reports that because of the way the payments fall on the calendar, there are four months in which no SSI checks are issued (January, April, July, and October). So, recipients need to remember not to expect a payment in July.  In March, June, September, and December two payments are made.

The payments amount to $924 for individuals and $1,371 for couples. The SSI payment schedule does not affect the regular Social Security payment schedule.

We Want to Put More Money in Your Pocket

Having additional retirement income makes senior life easier. That’s why here at Council of Seniors, we’re working to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) short-changed seniors by $581. The passage of this bill will ensure that money is returned.

Please take time now to sign our petition. Any support you can provide in returning this money to seniors will be deeply appreciated.
