Aging brings with it health concerns that can become truly difficult for seniors. Some are the product of poor lifestyle choices in younger days, or just the natural effects of aging. Today’s seniors are living longer, with many having an expectation of living into their 80s. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has experts on aging who’ve identified the most worrisome health concerns of seniors.

Here are the top 10 conditions that weigh on the minds of older Americans:

  1. Arthritis
  2. Heart Disease
  3. Cancer
  4. Respiratory Disease
  5. Alzheimer’s
  6. Osteoporosis
  7. Diabetes
  8. Influenza/Pneumonia
  9. Falls
  10. Substance Abuse

Clearly, the challenge for seniors is to find ways to manage chronic conditions and avoid preventable health risks. More older Americans are finding it beneficial to seek medical care from a geriatrician specializing in diseases that afflict elderly people. Of course, staying physically active and following a healthy diet will help with managing a range of conditions.

The CDC reports that 41 percent of Americans over age 65 say their health is very good or excellent.

Council of Seniors Wants Seniors to Enjoy Life More

Extra retirement income gives seniors a financial cushion. That’s just one reason why here at Council of Seniors, we believe Congress must pass The SAVE Benefits Act. You need this legislation because the annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) has shortchanged seniors in recent years. Once it passes, the $581 missing from seniors’ benefits will be returned
